What is a yeast infection?

DEFINITION OF YEAST INFECTION

An infection that can be caused by too much of yeast bacteria accumulated in the genitals. It is sexually transmitted and can be treated with certain medications.

This infection can occur in both sexes, but mostly women in their twenties and thirties seen to be infected by it.

The infection can cause itching in the genitalia of both men and women and also a discharge of mucus from the sex organs of both sexes.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF A YEAST INFECTION:

Vaginal yeast infections have a common set of symptoms, such as: vaginal itching, swelling around the vagina, burning during urination, pain during sex, soreness, redness and also a rash.

Usually the length of time your yeast infection is left untreated has a direct impact on how severe your symptoms may become.

Vaginal yeast infections, also known as candidiasis, are a common female condition. A vagina that is healthy has some bacteria and some yeast cells, but when the bacteria and yeast cells become unbalanced, the yeast cells can multiply.

This is the cause of the intense itching, swelling and irritation that accompanies the infection.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF YEAST INFECTIONS

Not changing your sanitary napkin or tampon often enough certainly contributes to the cause of the infection.
Yeast breeds in high-moisture environments, and pads and tampons can keep excess moisture around, allowing yeast to grow.

Women change your pads or tampons more often, especially in warmer weather.

Taking antibiotics is certainly another reason why women get the infection. If you are taking antibiotics for any conditIon, it can throw you body into a tailspin.

Antibiotics can absolutely destroy healthy bacteria, causing the yeast to grossly multiply.

To help promote the good bacteria and minimize the chances of infection, it is recommended that a person takes a probiotic supplement while taking the antibiotic.

If you have high blood sugar, diabetes or pre-diabetes, be careful yeast can get its energy from sugar and infections grow in moist areas of the body.

Having sexual intercourse with a partner that is infected can cause the uninfected partner to become infected also.

Yes, yeast infections are contagious, it can be come from a partner that has oral yeast infection or infection of a penis.

Men that are uncircumcised are more likely to be infected with the yeast infection than men that have had a circumcision.

Tight underwear made from a synthetic fabric
that doesn’t let the private area get enough air encourages yeast
overgrowth by creating a warm, moist environment. It’s a good idea to go to be nude at least once
or twice a week, because it allows the vagina to naturally air itself out.

You want to smell good and fresh in that area down there. Scented sprays,
wipes, washes, and even fragrant bubble bath may cause the acidity level
in the vagina to drop, resulting in an onset of a yeast infection. Use soap instead. And don’t even think about douching.

Vaginal Yeast Infection

What is a vaginal yeast infection?

Vaginal yeast infections, also known as candidiasis, are a common female condition. A healthy vagina
has bacteria and some yeast cells. But when the balance of bacteria and
yeast changes, the yeast cells can multiply. This causes intense itching, swelling, and irritation.

Treating a vaginal yeast infection can relieve symptoms within a few days. In more severe cases, it may take up to two weeks.

Vaginal yeast infections aren’t considered a sexually transmitted infection
(STI). Sexual contact can spread it, but women who aren’t sexually
active can also get them. Once you get a yeast infection, you’re also
more likely to get another one.

Causes
What causes vaginal yeast infections?

The fungus Candida is a naturally occurring microorganism in the vaginal area. Lactobacillus
bacteria keeps its growth in check. But if there’s an imbalance in your
system, these bacteria won’t work effectively. This leads to an
overgrowth of yeast, which causes the symptoms of vaginal yeast
infections.

Several factors can cause a yeast infection, including:

A specific kind of yeast called Candida albicans
causes most yeast infections. These yeast infections are easily
treatable. If you’re having recurring yeast infections or problems
getting rid of a yeast infection with conventional treatment, then a
different version of Candida might be the cause. A lab test can identify which type of Candida you have.

Diagnosis
How are vaginal yeast
infections diagnosed?

Yeast infections are simple to
diagnose. Your doctor will ask about your medical history. This will
include whether you’ve had yeast infections before. They may also ask if
you’ve ever had an STI.

The next step is a pelvic exam. Your doctor will examine your vaginal walls and cervix. They’ll also look at the surrounding area for external signs of infection.

Depending
on what your doctor sees they may collect some cells from your vagina.
These cells will go to a lab for examination. Lab tests are usually
ordered for women who have yeast infections on a regular basis or for
infections that won’t go away.

Treatment
How is a
vaginal yeast infection treated?

Each yeast infection is
different, so your doctor will suggest a treatment that’s best for you.
Treatments are generally determined based on the severity of your
symptoms.

Simple infections

For simple yeast infections, your doctor will usually prescribe a 1-3 day regimen of an antifungal cream, ointment, tablet, or suppository. These medications can be in prescription or over-the-counter.

Common medications include:

Women
with simple yeast infections should follow up with their doctors to
make sure the medicine worked. A follow-up will also be necessary if
your symptoms return within two months. If you recognize that you have a
yeast infection, you can also treat yourself at home with OTC products.

COMPLICATED INFECTIONS

Your doctor will more than likely treat your yeast infection as if it were a severe or complicated case, if you:

  • have severe redness, swelling, and itching that leads to sores or tears in your vaginal tissue
  • have had more than four yeast infections in a year
  • have infection caused by Candida other than albicans
  • are pregnant
  • have uncontrolled diabetes or a weak immune system from medication
  • are HIV-positive

Possible treatments for severe or complicated yeast infections include:

  • 14-day cream, ointment, tablet, or suppository vaginal treatment
  • two or three doses of fluconazole (Diflucan)
  • long-term
prescription of fluconazole (Diflucan) taken once a week for six weeks,
or long-term use of a topical antifungal medication

If your infection is recurring, you may also want to see if your sexual partner has a yeast infection. Remember to use condoms when having sex if you suspect either of you has a yeast infection.

What women want………….in persuit of my dreams

WHAT DO YOU DESIRE AS A WOMAN

What is it that a woman wants covers quite a lot of territory. It may be said, that the wants of a woman are as many as there are sands on the beach.

These wants and desires are at times very varied, and a person could equate them to almost being fanatical. Is it maybe because, since we are ever-changing, and our needs and desires change right along with us.

Consider this, as a child, we want those things that are child-like, which covers everything from dolls to fast cars.
We imagine in our teens, what kind of career we might pursue.

Adult things like marriage might be never thought of, as we play with our dolls and tea sets.
Then there is a period in our lives that we want to live a life of glamour, Living the rich life. Going from country to country, visiting all those exotic places that we’ve seen in those fashion magazines.

Living the high life, it seems so right at this period in our life. Traveling in the biggest cruise ships, eating caviar in the most expensive restaurants, wearing fashions that are the envy of all people and living in houses we own all around the world.

These are things that we imagine during that fantasy period of our lives.
There are different wishes for every individual born into the different strata of society.

It appears that desires vary most, during the time of our ability to attain the things that are reachable.

We dream according to the standard of living that we are reared in.

It could be explained like this maybe: born rich or well-to-do, big dreams, having the realization that it is entirely possible to get anything that we dream of.

Born in poverty: this often times raises a question on whether our dreams will ever become a reality. Many would say that even if you are born rich or poor, the decision to succeed or fail is left up to the individual in most cases.

The thing most desired by most every person, no matter what color, origin, educational background is to be happy. It matters not if you’re rich, living in a mansion and having people cater to you’re every whim, if there is no happiness in your life, life still sucks.

On the other hand, if you had a house that resembled a shack and happiness resided there, you would feel like you had the world at your finger tips.
What makes their lives seem fuller or satisfies them is the question that needs to be asked here. Not everyone needs are the same as someone else.

It’s just like everyone having the same shoe but in reality, people have different size feet. So what works for one, doesn’t work for everybody.
There are as many answers as there are women, when the question is asked “What do you want out of life”. Children could fulfill the desire of some women.

Some just love the idea of bringing children into this world, caring for them, watching them grow, teaching them and seeing them grow up to be the very best they can be.

Some desire to live a long productive life. Maybe these women have set a lot of goals in their life and living a long time is the only way that can assure them of accomplishing all of their goals
they have set for themselves.
Not to feel suppressed, disrespected and to be heard is what women want as well. To feel that you’re here for a specific purpose only, gives a feeling of having no identity and worthlessness.

To feel what you do or say is nothing, causes an individual to be withdrawn, they cease to grow inwardly, and stymies their productive energy.
Whatever you desire in life, go after those things. Whatever it is that brings peace into your life and makes you happy, if it doesn’t encroach on anyone else, if it is legal, do it with all the strength that you have.

We are only on this big blue ball we call earth for a very short time and while we are breathing and have the energy, we need to go after whatever it is that is meaningful to us and pleases us.

Don’t just sit and wish in your golden years that you had done this or that, get out there, make a move and set the wheels in motion to satisfy yourself.

No one knows better than you what you need so never depend on anyone to tell you how you should live your life.

There are multiplied thousands of folks that have been cheated of a good life by listening to somebody else and doing what they said was right for them.
Going and getting what you want makes you no less of a lady. If it’s a husband that you want, the world is full of desirable gentlemen.

If it’s children that you want in your life, go for it. Want a career that spans a lifetime, don’t allow anyone to deter you.

Please never try to impress others, you are wonderfully made. Those gifts that were given to you at birth, will make room for you among the nations of the world.

Stop and think for a moment, would you desire to an exact copy of someone else, of course not.

Do what that little voice inside you says, and you’ll have all you desire and be all you can be.

Have fun!

How is your mental wellness?………….what is mental health?

WHAT ARE SOME SIGNS OF MENTAL ILLNESS:

Confused or can’t concentrate.

feeling depressed or down.

fears and worries.

mood swings of highs and lows.

withdrawal from people.

can’t sleep.

HOW DO YOU MEASURE YOURSELF MENTALLY?

There are ways that the average person can find out how they measure up mentally.

This by no means implies that you can be as accurate as a professional that has studied the mind and is well versed in the capabilities or limits of the mind.

But checking how you deal with your daily routine, will help give some idea of the present state of your mind.
Check yourself to see how you manage stress in your life, whether it be at the home, at work, or in your social life.

If you are a parent, does it seem like the kids sometimes worry you more than you’re capable of dealing with and you just want to throw up your hand and yell.

What if, on the job, the aggravation and stress is much more than you are able to handle and you find yourself being argumentative or disrespectful to your co-workers at times.

Your social life seems to be fine, at times even great but there are times that sacrifices you make to be one of the girls, is just too much to handle.
In either of the examples, just because you experience some days that test your patients more than others, by no means that you’re slipping into a mental collapse.

We all go through those days when the kids are more rambunctious than they ever were.

Those days are bound to happen, kids are made that way, they are healthy and full of energy and feel great.

It is up to us to keep our wits about us and realize that this is a normal part of their growth and development and we’re going to have those special days.

We were not given a list of things to do, how to act or how to deal with stuff when we were born, so, we have to learn as we go, many times, just play it by ear.

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. How you cope with life kind of sums it all up.
What does a person have to do to be mentally healthy. First of all, think highly of yourself, take pride in who you are, carry a positive attitude with you, never listen to naysayers, get rid of those gloomy and doom friendships.

Surround yourself with people that are like-minded and listen to you and not criticize you. Get a good physical work out weekly, this can eliminate a lot of stress in your life.

If you are religious, go to the church you are choosing, don’t dwell on unfruitful or unhealthy thoughts, set goals in your life and strive to reach them.

Learn how to deal with stress. What ever its origin.

Why the rise in my blood pressure?…………..the case-cause-cure

THE SILENT KILLER!

The medical specialists say that blood pressure is the push of blood being pushed against vessel walls. High blood pressure means that the push of blood against your vessel walls is higher than it should be.

The way blood pressure is measured is by what is called the systolic and diastolic method. Systolic is the pressure when your heart beats, diastolic is the pressure when your heart is resting between beats.

The systolic pressure would be the upper number when reading your pressure, the diastolic is the lower number. If reading the blood pressure the numbers would read something like this 110/73.
The blood pressure of a normal healthy adult should read below 120/80. If the reading exceeds this reading, you are said to have hypertension.

The reason that high blood pressure is call the “silent killer” is because it offers no signs or symptoms at all to warn the victim that it has invaded their body.

There are thousands in the population that haven’t a clue that their blood pressure is high, the reasons are, there are signs and they feel normal.

This however is dangerous because, if undetected high blood pressure can lead to heart attack, stroke, vision loss and kidney disease.

TWO CAUSES OF HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

There are two categories in which the cause of high blood pressure or hypertension are divided into.

One cause of high blood pressure is: Essential high blood pressure-this means that there has been no diagnosed cause for it being high. The next category is: Secondary high blood pressure-this means that there an underlying factor for the blood pressure being elevated.

There other reasons for a person to experience high blood pressure, age plays a role in a person getting hypertension or high blood pressure. The older you get, the more likelihood of you getting it.

Family history plays a major role in a person having hypertension. It appears that if your family members have had it, you may carry it in your genetic make-up as well.

It also appears that temperature has an effect on blood pressure too. When the weather outside is cool or warm, the blood pressure of an individual rises or falls accordingly.

Ethnicity plays a role also in how a person might be a candidate for getting high blood pressure or hypertension. Are you of African or Asian origin, the likelihood of you getting hypertension increases.

Are you overweight or obese, your chances of developing high blood pressure rises.

Smoking or using tobacco products contributes to an individuals chances of having hypertension.

Women however, fare better than men when it comes to getting hypertension.

An habitual drinker can increase his/her chances of  getting this life threatening disease greatly.

HELP IN DEALING WITH HYPERTENSION

Limit your salt intake. Salt is bad for an individual because it raises the sodium level in your blood and reduces the ability of your kidneys to remove water from your body, resulting in the body retaining water, putting extra pressure on the blood vessel supplying the kidneys.

The more strain on the heart, kidneys and brain leads to heart attack, dementia, strokes and kidney failure.

Certain drinks are good when dealing with hypertension. For instance, coconut water, milk, apple cider vinegar drink, pomegranate juice, water, cranberry juice, red wine, beet juice, these are known to aid in lowering high blood pressure.

FOODS THAT RAISE YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE

As much as we just love eating pizza, it can be very harmful to us if we are trying to lower our blood pressure. Pizza, fresh or frozen have very large amounts of salt.

The toppings, tomato sauce, cheese, meats and even the dough are notorious sodium agents.

Watch out for those popular energy drinks, they are chocked full of caffeine and sugar, which can send your blood pressure exceeding high.

Watch out for frozen seafood which have been prepared with salt and other ingredients which raise your pressure. Canned foods can be high in sodium, read the label before eating these products.

Steaks or any food that is laden with fat is unhealthy, use common sense when indulging these foods

FOODS THAT HELP LOWER BLOOD PRESSURE

Whole grain foods like brown rice, carrots, sweet potatoes, green leafy vegetables, apples, pears, peaches, mangoes, bananas, poultry(no skin), fish, skim milk, low-fat cheese, almonds, kidney beans, and nuts are too.

MAKE A LIFESTYLE CHANGE

Improve your physical activity, working out moderately, will strengthen your heart and the whole of your body. Do exercise in moderation, don’t do anything that would destroy what you’re trying to build.

Consult your doctor before indulging in any regimen that you have doubts about………don’t blow it. Getting rid of a few pounds is always great for the body as a whole, get the pounds off safely.

Check your blood pressure daily, stay on top of it and lead a pretty normal life and enjoy the gifts that we have been blessed with.
